SANTA ANA DRAGS – In 1950 the first commercial drag strip in the United States, the Santa Ana Drags, begins at Orange County Airport (now John Wayne Airport) in Santa Ana, in Southern California. Admission is 50 cents; or 75 cents if the ticket holder wants to watch the mechanics work. It operated from June 19th, 1950 through 1959, and shut down due to increasing airport traffic.
